Web Payments Workshop - Next Steps

Hi all,

The post-Web Payments Workshop chatter among the attendees is showing
that the event was a big success. We had 100+ people there, many very
large companies and organizations were represented. The sessions were
lively, mildly chaotic, with lots and lots of ideas, use cases, and
problems being raised. The final list of "things we need to do" was
large, so it will take some focus by us and W3C to narrow that list down.

The W3C staff is currently trying to write up a report on the workshop,
and the hope is to have that out in the next few weeks. In the meantime,
you will start seeing formatted minutes for every session of the
workshop appearing on this mailing list.

I plan to do a summary blog post of the event. There will then most
likely be a W3C Interest Group launched to narrow down all of the things
we /could/ work on at W3C wrt. payments down into a manageable set of
items. Once a manageable set of work items have been created, W3C will
evaluate whether the work warrants new Working Groups. Work related to
Web Payments that can go into existing groups will end up in those groups.

Keep in mind that absolutely nothing is certain at this point, but the
overall feeling that came out of the workshop was a general excitement
around standardizing payments on the Web. The attendees wanted W3C to
take the next set of steps for getting some more official work around
payments under way at W3C.
