This experience was from Stripe Checkout, which is more similar to the payment sheet than to the merchant's website: https://stripe.com/checkout

That is definitely plausible, though I think if possible, we should gather end user data to test this hypothesis. The merchant is supplying display items, labels, and (eventually) error message in the language(s) they support. Having two different languages shown in the sheet is potentially also confusing.
