It would work.  It wouldn't scale super well.  Also it presumes that the merchant knows all of the payment methods that the customer has in their wallet.  I thought we weren't supporting that sort of interrogation?  If we are not, then the merchant might be offering a buy button that would immediately fail.  That doesn't feel super user friendly.
