Dear Interest Group, I received comments from Apple that I believe improve the draft charter, and I think it is worthwhile having the changes in the charter when we send it to the Membership for review. I believe the changes are in line with our intentions. I also want the IG to have an opportunity to review them. I have made the changes to the editor’s draft of the charter: http://w3c.github.io/webpayments-ig/latest/charters/payments-wg-charter.html You can compare with the draft we reviewed on Monday: http://www.w3.org/2015/06/payments-wg-charter.html Here are my edits: https://github.com/w3c/webpayments-ig/commit/3ae5a43f5e2e38622440eca2384fea1508e8e6dc Here’s a summary with some commentary: 1) It was suggested that definitions in the charter would help people read the charter. There were some suggested definitions that I found compelling that are in line with what we use in the use cases document, but are not exactly those definitions. I propose that we: - Adopt the definitions for six terms that are used in the charter, porting them to our central glossary - In the central glossary we can augment the definitions with examples (which I chose to leave out of the charter). Now with definitions of “digital payment scheme” and “digital payment instrument”, I use those terms throughout the charter, just as we had used “digital wallet” throughout. 2) It was pointed out that some digital payment schemes may make use internally of other payment schemes, and that how they do so is not addressed by this charter (which is true). I added a clarifying statement to the (new) definition of digital payment scheme. 3) It was observed that our privacy statement in the charter was not as strong as the one in our vision statement, and therefore I have swapped in the vision statement sentence that applies. The “extra” bit that is now part of the charter says that the APIs should require only the information necessary to carry out a transaction. 4) You’ll see also that I merged a variety of “background” information into the front of the charter, which simplifies the goals and scope sections. I am happy to review these changes at the Friday payments call, and again as needed at the Monday call. Thank you, Ian -- Ian Jacobs <ij@w3.org> http://www.w3.org/People/Jacobs Tel: +1 718 260 9447
