If you want to see Identity/Credentials work happen for payments, you will want to pay very close attention to this email. One of the outcomes from the Web Payments face-to-face was to take Credentials out of the critical path for version 1. One of the reasons for this was a "lack of organizations showing an interest in Identity / Credentials from a payments perspective". I am currently trying to compile a list of organizations that do think Identity and Credentials should be worked on /in parallel to/ the Web Payments work. If you think this should happen, please make sure you fill out the questionnaire (5 minutes) below. The proposal is to officially charter a group that details how a credential is issued, stored, and retrieved via the Web. The charter will specifically not define what goes inside the credential, instead focusing on 1) the container format for a credential, and 2) the protocol for sending and receiving credentials. Here is an executive summary of the Credentials work: http://tinyurl.com/creds-summary If your organization may want to support this work, please make your voice heard by filling out this poll: http://tinyurl.com/creds-poll So, that's the first step. The next step will be explaining the rationale of why this initiative is different from the other initiatives in the space and what W3C can bring to the table. The last step will be creating a charter and running it by W3M and the membership. However, in order to get to steps #2 and #3, we need to do step #1. We need to see if organizations are supportive of a parallel Identity/Credentials initiative. In order to do that, you'll have to fill out the poll above. -- manu -- Manu Sporny (skype: msporny, twitter: manusporny, G+: +Manu Sporny) Founder/CEO - Digital Bazaar, Inc. blog: Web Payments: The Architect, the Sage, and the Moral Voice https://manu.sporny.org/2015/payments-collaboration/
