As I stated, I do share this concern of yours. That said, as the current chair and editor, my job would be significantly easier if the conversation were to happen on one platform alone. The spec lives on GitHub, anyway; whether the conversation moves there or not is less relevant to my own sensibilities. That said, I’m not going to force anyone to use GitHub rather than emails! We have both, we can use both. But, given that Melvin mentioned ephemeral conversations, it felt appropriate to point out that we now have a more appropriate place for those within GitHub itself, for those who would prefer to use it.
