Hello all, Back with another “chair’s overview” - more about these in our CONTRIBUTING.md [1] file. The most important thing that happened in the past week is the merging of PR #60 [2], the first significant change to the working draft in a long, long time. Furthermore, merging PR #60 [2] has led to the first significant decrease in the number of open issues, another good sign that our gears are turning once again and that we’re picking up speed. The second most important thing is the feedback to issue #61 [3], which suggests a potential way forward that I’ve summarized in comment [4] and implemented in PR #66 [5]. In the last couple of weeks I’ve spent quite some time reaching out to less vocal members and other invested parties, doing my best at breaking out of our bubble and bringing new voices into the conversation. Unfortunately, many find following and participating to be unproductive endeavors, mostly quoting the “loud", “undisciplined", "self-referential" and “circular" nature of the conversation. Over the last few weeks I've had to go through many, many, many comments and emails; while I might not agree with the extent of this particular feedback, there’s an undeniable element of truth in it. So, in addition to reviewing PR #66 [5], this week I’d like each one of you to think about what we can do to be more welcoming and lessen the effort required to follow our activity. Note that we’ve already made a lot of progress on this front, progress that some people still have to catch up with. I’ve heard a lot of very positive feedback on our relatively new process [1] and these very weekly overviews. The time-limited moderation in issue #61 also got some positive mentions. To sum it up: - Review PR #66 [5] - Think of and propose ways to make the group more welcoming and its activity easier to follow Have a lovely week! Best, Jacopo.
