This is an advance notice that the Web Fonts Working Group [1] is exploring rechartering for new work on Progressive Font Enrichment, as described in this proposed draft charter:

Progressive Font Enrichment is based on exploratory work already done by Adobe Typekit on Dynamic Augmentation for East Asian Web fonts [2]; by Google, with an API to dynamically enrich Korean fonts which had been partitioned using Machine Learning [3],[4], and internal experiments by Monotype.

While these proprietary experiments demonstrated feasibility and need, there is a desire for an interoperable, vendor-neutral and royalty-free solution in this space.

We would welcome input and feedback before starting the formal review , planned for June 2018. Ideally, discussions should happen via issues raised on the Web Fonts Working Group's GitHub repository:
