Hi Vlad, Sorry, I have to run out for a while this afternoon, which means I'm not going to be able to make the telcon today. > Agenda: > > -Upcoming changes in telcon machinery and functionality (Zakim will be > replaced by WebEx, details to follow); > > -Updates on various issues (CTS development, hmtx pre-processing, CFF > de-sub / re-sub work and associated compression gains); Re hmtx pre-processing: ISTM this is something we should seriously consider; I agree with Behdad's comment that the processing complexity shouldn't be an issue, and the savings could be significant: 2 bytes per glyph could amount to several KB in a large font, even after Brotli compression; note that in most fonts, the LSB values will not show any particular patterning, so the entropy coder won't be able to work miracles to eliminate them. Indeed, I wonder if removing the LSB values from the hmtx table might *also* allow Brotli to get better compression of the remaining advance widths. So this is something I think we should explore further. Raph's doc suggested it could be worth 1%, and given that reconstructing it from the glyph bbox is actually pretty trivial, it sounds worthwhile to me. > > -F2F planning and agenda proposals – bring the issues you want to see > added to the meeting agenda; > > -AOB > > Talk to you soon, > > Vlad >
