<trackbot> Date: 17 December 2014
<John_Hudson> On IRC, but unable to join call at the moment
<Vlad> Hi John
<Vlad> scribenick: RSheeter
all: await Chris with great anticipation
<ChrisL> j'arrive!
vlad: need to do long term planning for '15; f2f meetings in
particular
... progress bursty but solid for '14; we are awesome
DavidK: Firefox Opera and Chrome support woff2; pretty cool!
Vlad: is convinced woff2 is real :D And happy that ~50% of
users can use it for real!
open action items
Vlad: asking about ACTION-116 status
DavidK: we are exploring options; will discuss more with Chrome
team
<ChrisL> action-116?
<trackbot> action-116 -- David Kuettel to Decoder performance
analysis on mobile devices -- due 2015-01-31 -- OPEN
<trackbot> [7]http://www.w3.org/Fonts/WG/track/actions/116
[7] http://www.w3.org/Fonts/WG/track/actions/116
action-122?
<trackbot> action-122 -- Roderick Sheeter to Investigate the
TTC support as part of the WOFF 2.0 pre-processing mechanism --
due 2014-10-31 -- OPEN
<trackbot> [8]http://www.w3.org/Fonts/WG/track/actions/122
[8] http://www.w3.org/Fonts/WG/track/actions/122
RSheeter: impressed at syntax prompts
<ChrisL> that is part of 122
Vlad: we include ttc spec updates under action-122
action-155?
<trackbot> action-155 -- Vladimir Levantovsky to Clarify
handling of checksum in a font collection -- due 2014-12-10 --
OPEN
<trackbot> [9]http://www.w3.org/Fonts/WG/track/actions/155
[9] http://www.w3.org/Fonts/WG/track/actions/155
Vlad: nobody has a definitive answer for how to do checksums
for collections
<ChrisL> IP layer already does per packet checking so adding it
in the app layer has no real value
<ChrisL> (assuming TCP and not UDP)
Vlad: impact of wrong checksum is unclear; may need to alter
spec to clarify
Raph: why do we care about checksum?
<RSheeter_> Vlad: decompressor discuses how we rebuild
checksums so this is in spec
<RSheeter_> Vlad: it was brought up in context of TTC with
multiple head tables that the definition in otspec doesn't
entirely make sense here
<RSheeter_> Vlad: per-table is definition is fine, we can set
the correct value, it's just the head table one that is unclear
<RSheeter_> Vlad: if it doesn't matter, perhaps we can just
ignore the head table checksum, but it would be nice to have
some assurance this won't break things.
<RSheeter_> Raph: consumer probably tears apart and
re-checksums anyway. Likely that most consumers will fix their
own checksums and thus we don't have to do anything woff2 spec
side.
<RSheeter_> (discussion of whether anything would in fact
break)
<ChrisL> what would the google font sanitizer do?
<RSheeter_> Raph: we need to actually test whether it matters
<RSheeter_> I don't think OTS supports collections today
<RSheeter_> Vlad: action-155 moving to be due Jan 14th, 2015
<RSheeter_> Raph: where's the action item to update spec for
TTC?
<RSheeter_> (I also would like a new action for spec update for
ttc)
<RSheeter_> Raph: goes all Canadian on us and apologizes
<RSheeter_> Raph: will take action to write spec for next call
(expected Jan 7th)
<RSheeter_> action Raph Draft spec update for TTC support
<trackbot> Created ACTION-156 - Draft spec update for ttc
support [on Raph Levien - due 2014-12-24].
<RSheeter_> it's like magic!
<RSheeter_> close action-122 with prejudice
<RSheeter_> close action-122
<trackbot> Closed action-122.
<RSheeter_> action-129?
<trackbot> action-129 -- David Kuettel to Prepare a mime type
application draft and justification for top-level "font"
registration (with Vlad) -- due 2015-01-31 -- OPEN
<trackbot> [10]http://www.w3.org/Fonts/WG/track/actions/129
[10] http://www.w3.org/Fonts/WG/track/actions/129
<RSheeter_> Vlad: tests David's passion
<RSheeter_> David: is still passionate
<RSheeter_> action-133?
<trackbot> action-133 -- Raph Levien to Review the spec edits
and finalize the definition of the "nominal size" -- due
2014-10-15 -- OPEN
<trackbot> [11]http://www.w3.org/Fonts/WG/track/actions/133
[11] http://www.w3.org/Fonts/WG/track/actions/133
<RSheeter_> Vlad: isn't sorry. It's all Canadianism day!
<RSheeter_> Raph: took many vacations already, doesn't need any
more!
<RSheeter_> are date changes also magic commands?
<RSheeter_> (Vlad is editing in a manner that suggests not)
<RSheeter_> action-145?
<trackbot> action-145 -- Roderick Sheeter to check padding and
alignment in reference implementation -- due 2014-09-21 -- OPEN
<trackbot> [12]http://www.w3.org/Fonts/WG/track/actions/145
[12] http://www.w3.org/Fonts/WG/track/actions/145
<RSheeter_> close action-145
<trackbot> Closed action-145.
<RSheeter_> action-146?
<trackbot> action-146 -- Chris Lilley to Use ietf-w3c liaison
to get review and guidance for next steps on brotli id -- due
2014-09-23 -- OPEN
<trackbot> [13]http://www.w3.org/Fonts/WG/track/actions/146
[13] http://www.w3.org/Fonts/WG/track/actions/146
<RSheeter_> Vlad: do we have a reviewer or date?
<ChrisL> I think we were keeping ACTION-146 open until we
achieves success
<RSheeter_> DavidK: we are looking to have Mark Adler review
and write an independent implementation starting January
<RSheeter_> (discussion of independent implementation [of
decoder] idea; consensus that it would be awesome)
<RSheeter_> Vlad: set most actions due Jan 14
<RSheeter_> action-148?
<trackbot> action-148 -- Vladimir Levantovsky to Review and
edit the conformance test for extraneous data -- due 2015-01-14
-- OPEN
<trackbot> [14]http://www.w3.org/Fonts/WG/track/actions/148
[14] http://www.w3.org/Fonts/WG/track/actions/148
<RSheeter_> action-153?
<trackbot> action-153 -- Raph Levien to Work with vlad to
clarify all uses of original length -- due 2015-01-14 -- OPEN
<trackbot> [15]http://www.w3.org/Fonts/WG/track/actions/153
[15] http://www.w3.org/Fonts/WG/track/actions/153
<RSheeter_> Raph: 133 and 153 updates should fly together
Plans for 2015
<RSheeter_> Vlad: when spec is done we can go to last call.
Potentially end of January. We should make it happen!
<RSheeter_> Vlad: are we all set to make Khaled Hosny an
invited expert?
<RSheeter_> ChrisL: he should have received invitation
<RSheeter_> Vlad: probably we'll have to adjust things as we go
through CTS; f2f would be helpful and ATypeI isn't until late
in year
<RSheeter_> (discussion of time/venue for f2f earlier in year)
<RSheeter_> DavidK: Google can host if there isn't a better
alternative
<RSheeter_> Vlad: May seems like a good ballpark time
<RSheeter_> Vlad: primary goal of May f2f would be to checkup
on CTS and spec status
<John_Hudson> If looking for early f2f opportunity, RoboFont is
in The Hague in March.
<ChrisL> Topic implementations
<RSheeter_> Jonathan: in FF nightly and aurora, probably dev
edition too
<RSheeter_> Jonathan: disabled on beta and release as yet
<RSheeter_> Google Fonts: we are serving woff2 to Firefox 35+
<RSheeter_> Happy Holidays are deployed!
