We have an opportunity here, as being all together to allocate some time with external contributors. It does not mean we are going to solve the entire topic of high level API, we are just going to exchange view. Note also that one of the objective would be to have those external views becoming WG participants, as you have mentioned we need to recruit to become legitimate to work on this high level api :) > > For the next steps : > * Let's see which external part is interested and see if we can gather enough contributors to have that discussion without disturbing too much our first priority topics. > * I'd be happy to make a straw man proposal for usecase to make that discussion less vague and more concrete. Also, for a "high-level" API the use-cases would be about the same for the low-level API. It would be interested to see if usecases 3.4->3.6, which are of interest to a large number of web developers who aren't cryptographers (Nadim comes to mind), might be feasible with a higher-level API rather than a lower-level one. cheers, harry > > Regards, > virginie > > > -----Original Message----- > From: Ryan Sleevi [mailto:sleevi@google.com] > Sent: jeudi 4 avril 2013 18:44 > To: Harry Halpin > Cc: GALINDO Virginie; public-webcrypto@w3.org; wseltzer@w3.org > Subject: Re: Socializing the high level API during our F2F meeting in April > > I think it would be helpful first to get use cases. > > I don't think the way our meetings have been structured are conducive towards trying to get external involvement or making valuable use of their time. Our meetings often involve very vague discussions that meander on, without making real progress. > > Having a concrete set of use cases that say "These are the problems we face", as an initial list, is a much more productive use of getting feedback from external parties. As has been repeatedly mentioned, each of the high level APIs you've mentioned attempt to solve different problems, and with different tradeoffs, and unless you're expecting the members of this WG to be experts in cryptography, then I would suggest its better to first provide the use cases. > > On Thu, Apr 4, 2013 at 2:57 AM, Harry Halpin <hhalpin@w3.org> wrote: >> On 04/02/2013 03:28 PM, GALINDO Virginie wrote: >> >> Hi all, >> >> >> >> As briefly mentioned in our call yesterday, I would like to get your >> view and interest for organizing a meeting open to the public to >> discuss the high level API. >> >> >> >> The actual objective would be to have a conversation about >> >> - The other technology providing with high level API (NaCl, ...) >> >> - The use cases for a W3C high level API >> >> - The potential action plan in the Web Crypto WG >> >> >> I'd like to see the following people, who have experience with >> high-level APIs, in attendance: >> >> - Some Google folks from Keyczar (is Weiss still on it?) >> - Some NACL folks - Daniel J.
