It seems that the WG finally have acknowledged that the Web Crypto API cannot support traditional PKI applications without touching things that are outside of the API: http://lists.w3.org/Archives/Public/public-webcrypto/2013Mar/0064.html "The Key Discovery draft specifically addresses 'named, origin-specific pre-provisioned keys'. I would guess that the smart cards and USB tokens that you wish to use already exist and do not already have the necessary metadata to fall into that category" Since putting additional requirements on the Web Crypto underpinnings is out of scope, the only logical conclusion is that the entire use-case is out of scope. Postponing this discussion to TPAC in China in November won't change anything. Anders
