It seems innocuous enough but it's unclear how this benefits this project. v2 of the `actions/checkout` action uses the [deprecated `save-state` and `set-output` commands](https://github.blog/changelog/2022-10-11-github-actions-deprecating-save-state-and-set-output-commands) that'll be removed soon enough, so not updating to newer versions can break the workflow/CI of this project.
