On our intent to wind down the WACG

Hello WACG,

Attendance has been very low for many months. Despite an effort at TPAC 2024 to identify ways to reinvigorate interest in the Community Group I and my co-chair Nick Steele have not been able to achieve any such improvements. After meaningful deliberation between ourselves, we have decided to announce our intent to shut down the WebAuthn Adoption Community Group.

WebAuthn has come a tremendous way since Nick and I took over as WACG co-chairs in May 2020. The ecosystem now is in a much better place thanks to attendees like you who invested your time and energy to participating in the WACG. Thank you very much to everyone who attended over the last five years, sharing your stories, putting in the effort to keep up with the rapid evolution of WebAuthn into passkeys, and offering your insights to attendees in earlier stages of their WebAuthn adoption experience. Rest assured Nick and I continue to root for WebAuthn's success even as we step back from leading the WACG.

If anyone has any major objections to this plan then please make your voice heard. We are not opposed to someone else taking over the reigns as Chair and trying their hand at leading the group. If no one raises any major objections by Monday May 12th we will proceed with shutting down the WACG.

Thank you,

-Matthew
