Invitation to test passkeys on GitHub

Hey folks -

GitHub is working on an RP implementation for passkeys, and we've already
gotten some great feedback from our partners in the community. We're
closing in on a public beta next month, but we'd love to get your feedback
on this early. In particular, we're interested in the newer passkey
providers that are coming up, such as password manager clients, as we
haven't had the opportunity to test these as much.

If you're interested, please drop a note to me with your GitHub handle, and
we will add you to the private beta. Once registered, you'll see the new
passkey section at https://github.com/settings/security

Some notes about the current state, once you're in the beta.
1. We aren't enabling passkeys generally yet, so we check for a cookie
before showing the passkey sign in option and enabling conditional
mediation.
   * You can enable it manually by going to
https://github.com/login?passkey=true
2. We have an upgrade flow that re-registers eligible "Security keys" as
synced passkeys. This is necessary to handle the legacy platform
authenticator registrations we already have.
3. We are in the middle of allowing cross-device passkey and hardware
security key registration. But for now, your e.g. Yubikey Bio won't be
registerable as a passkey.

Happy to field questions, feedback, or concerns you might have.

Thanks,
Hirsch Singhal
