Hi, Here are the notes I took during our call yesterday; we're thinking of canceling our next scheduled call (October 18) due to overlap with FIDO Authenticate and W3C TPAC - please let Nick and me know if you think we should still have a meeting despite this. * FIDO Dev Challenge debrief (continued from last week) Andrew: thanks to the CG for their support during the dev challenge; happy to receive feedback to inform a future edition after this very first global instance [presenting slides to be shared later] Andrew: call for submissions in July, narrowed to 12 then 3 finalists, presented to VCs ... all 3 had already interesting applications; investors had particularly good feedback on the winner of the top prize ... in terms of outreach - lots of promo around the event highlighting the team, the participants; media interviews, social media; email blast and targeted invitations ... a bit surprised we didn't get more participants - maybe summer wasn't ideal ... a highlight was the support provided on Discord incl by the WebAuthn CG ... teams used Discord for their own work; so did judges ... we met teams on-line via Zoom, and Joon was very involved with the various teams ... sponsors supported team with hardware donations when they didn't have keys to use ... there was support all along the event to keep the teams motivated and invested ... and this finished with the VC roundtable ... prizes will go out to the teams ... the top 3 teams will participate in Authenticate (2 in persons, one remote) ... blog post will recap the event and the winner Joon: we had 21 proposals, which led to 14 teams, then 12 actual implementation work Andrew: they proposed a pretty wide range set of topics Joon: we had a number of students participating, but probably lacked a bit of maturity and didn't make it to the finalists; had a few participants from FIDO members Andrew: we're interested in feedback from the WebAuthn Adoption CG - should we do it again? if so, should we do it differently Dom: [summarize proposals from last week] Nick: Tim's idea of a campus at authenticate is exciting ... maybe change the timeline of the event - a longer timeline would let more time for people to come up with ideas ... I agree the Discord was very good - the timezone difference between the locus of Korean participants and my timezone made it sometimes hard to participate, but catching up on questions raised there was really useful to understand challenges people might have with adoption Andrew: another angle - a startup challenge? set commercial objectives that could be vetted, based on existing PoC - but then we miss the newbies ... 2022 planning will be starting soon after Authenticate; a 2022 event might start in Spring Joon: another question is whether the event will be hybrid based on the evolution of COVID Nick: maybe an idea would have to separate more cleanly (or sequence) a dev education part, and a VC-part Joon: based on past experience, combining education & development challenge is hard - we need to focus * webauthn.how updates https://github.com/webauthn-adoption/practical-webauthn/ New projecst about to be added to the list there * webauthn conformance test suite https://github.com/webauthn-adoption/webauthn-conformance [reporting from Slack Jarrett: I haven't pushed any changes, but my next steps are: - add more tests, specifically ones that could produce common failures - start soliciting thoughts and opinions on the tool and the responses it returns - once there is something a bit “more” than a PoC, we can see if its something we want to integrate into the community group officially and continuing working on it in a more official capacity ] * browser implementation data work is ongoing, trying to improve how data is represented; updates to MDN Browser Compat Data are pending * MOOC: John: polishing 1st 2 modules with a start date on November 16; looking for suggestions on outreach Nick: FIDO Authenticate; happy to promote on Twitter * Next meeting: - we may cancel October 18 due to FIDO Authenticate / W3C TPAC
