hyowon-igalia created an issue (w3ctag/design-reviews#1279) Hi TAG, This is an FYI about Chromium's planned implementation of the existing SVG2 `side` attribute on `<textPath>`. During the Intent to Ship discussion, Blink API owners recommended notifying the TAG for awareness. We have already sent the Intent to Ship; apologies for the late notification. This issue is intended as an FYI rather than a request for a full design review, but feedback is welcome. ### Feature summary The `side` attribute controls which side of a path the text is placed on. Setting `side="right"` effectively reverses the path direction for text layout. This allows authors to place text on the inside or outside of a shape, such as a circular path, without duplicating or manually reversing the path data. ### Specification - SVG2 definition: https://w3c.github.io/svgwg/svg2-draft/text.html#TextPathElementSideAttribute - Related SVG Working Group discussion about the IDL: https://github.com/w3c/svgwg/issues/1086 ### Implementation references - Chromium: https://issues.chromium.org/issues/40362379 - Firefox: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=2034371 - WebKit: https://github.com/WebKit/WebKit/pull/66616 ### Chromium shipping plans We are targeting Chrome 156, subject to the remaining shipping approvals. - ChromeStatus: https://chromestatus.com/feature/5422782593761280 - Intent to Ship discussion: https://groups.google.com/a/chromium.org/d/msgid/blink-dev/6aab4606.edf999b6.27416f.0002.GAE%40google.com Thanks! <!-- Content below this is maintained by @w3c-tag-bot --> --- Track conversations at https://tag-github-bot.w3.org/gh/w3ctag/design-reviews/1279 -- Reply to this email directly or view it on GitHub: https://github.com/w3ctag/design-reviews/issues/1279 You are receiving this because you are subscribed to this thread.
