WebKit will likely be opposed to this: https://github.com/WebKit/standards-positions/issues/41#issuecomment-4307350675. We don't think this is a good direction for the web and also believe that many of the main use cases driving this could be addressed by enhancements to the Media Session API.

I also think OP is a tad misleading as my understanding is that neither Chromium nor Gecko supports this API on mobile.
