I don’t think this is a strong argument, as the same thing can be said about _any_ CSS feature.  E.g. What’s preventing an author from setting a text’s color to white on a white background? What’s preventing an author from giving an element an opacity of 0? What’s preventing an author from setting a ridiculously small font-size? What’s preventing authors from removing underlines from links? …
