All right, I understand the third party links use case now for standalone app window detection. But I definitely still believe that should be a separate topic from installation status.

I think we should really go for a more fully featured api for dynamically managing display modes in JS. With such an api, for example, instead of replacing the contents of the display:standalone PWA window when going to a third party link, you might instead dynamically switch to display:tabbed and open the third party links in other tabs in the app window.
