We agree with what Anne said because the whole point of this proposal to make the Selection API reasonable with Shadow DOM, and what getRangeAt returns should be included.

Is changing this may cause webcompat issues the main concern here? Given webkit doesn't expose the shadow tree and they don't seem to have webcompat issues because of this, maybe it's fine for Blink/Gecko to change it.
