Thank you again for the review, I really appreciate the feedback. I understand the concern, but I agree with @zcorpan that the sync layout issue could be addressed separately and keep this API as developer-friendly as possible.

One possible direction could be Alex Russell’s proposal on event phases, which aims to address this more holistically: https://github.com/MicrosoftEdge/MSEdgeExplainers/blob/main/EventPhases/explainer.md.

Also, in the Alternative Solutions section of [the highlightsFromPoint explainer](https://github.com/MicrosoftEdge/MSEdgeExplainers/blob/main/highlight/HighlightsFromPointsExplainer.md#alternative-solutions), I’ve expanded on other async options and explained why they’re less attractive than the current proposal.
