@Westbrook the design @plinss is proposing doesn't seem to conflict with that at all. Instead of having a map, you'd have an attribute on the element whose values are the delegated attributes. 

I don't feel super strongly about it, but I do think this would be a superior [closeness of mapping](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cognitive_dimensions_of_notations#List_of_the_cognitive_dimensions) and thus, provide improved DX, whereas referencing ids is an indirection.
