@mbrodesser I think I have addressed most of the issues in this PR. I know it has some "undefined behavior" in the algorithms, but without consensus from other implementers, I don't think I can add anything there. Moreover, it's not entirely related to async APIs since DataTransfer has similar issues as well related to sanitization. Can we at least merge these changes and open separate PR to address specific issues? I don't have much bandwidth to work on this PR since I'll be working on other projects and I don't want to put this PR on hold for long.
