I'm surprised there hasn't been more activity here since 2020. Rebranding a PWA is basically impossible now due to this. No one wants to ask their users to uninstall the app and reinstall it.

Chrome currently prompts the user when the manifest name changes and asks for explicit confirmation. Could it not be similar for icons?
