I appreciate the comparison, but I don't think we can compare to native platforms, which have all their resources locally available, to the web: Fetching always adds complexity, as I listed in https://github.com/w3c/manifest/issues/676#issuecomment-817617728, which I feel pretty strongly we should avoid for now.
