A very interesting discussion. Could I just ask what operations you're intending the colour representation chosen to be used for? I have seen issues with large colour volumes being reduced for display on practical monitors. If the scaling occurs within the colour space, then there may be a need to investigate how hue-invariant desaturation and brightness changes are. For example, Braun, Fairchild and Ebner show experimental results for CIELAB desaturation: https://www.researchgate.net/publication/2514272_Color_Gamut_Mapping_in_a_Hue-Linearized_CIELAB_Color_Space There are more recent colour representations that can be used and which have significantly lower hue-distortion on desaturation, but care needs to be taken in understanding the limitations of each representation's design, e.g. some are designed to be implemented in the hardware currently prevalent in televisions, some are not easily realised in current consumer hardware. -- You are receiving this because you are subscribed to this thread.
