I feel like we're going in circles now. We don't want to prompt anyone to install / save-to-home-screen any website or web app. That's the primary issue that I pointed out in OP. Since we're not going to such a prompting, then this feature is either irrelevant or would prevent users from saving a web site / app to home screen.
