I would think so. Yeah I'd want you to be able to detect whether it's in a tabbed mode (so you could implement your own tabbed interface in HTML and disable it if you're in a tabbed mode). So however we do it, I'd want to make it detectable. It seems that decoupling it from display-mode would mean we have to add more media features.
