Well, I don't really want to support it, but every browser other than Firefox having it makes it somewhat essential unfortunately. I guess that would be a reasonable alternative model, except that I think I learned from @domenic that functions in ECMAScript are not supposed to have an associated global (even though this is the case in some implementations).
