This issue complains that the WHATWG pushes a URL definition that only represents a tiny amount of stakeholders as canonical.

No adoption has happened, even by the stakeholders taking part in the issue, since.

As result, maybe the WHATWG should reopen this, and re-evaluate if promoting this definition as the canonical definition of "URL" is a good idea, or if this standard should be dropped.
