I think that any time you get this event, it will be because the UA wants you to stop using the old subscription.  Whether it's already dead or only imminent, any signal that might be used to extend the life of the old subscription will make it harder to remove it properly.

I'm already sad about the fact that this event might not be the end for the old subscription.
