>From an end user point of view, I like the idea of having the browser handle spelling and grammar checking so that I get the same user experience across applications and avoid monstrosities such as the WebSpellChecker dialog.

Maybe we should collect which API improvements would be necessary so that application developers don't feel the need to roll their own? I can think of:
– Control over the language that's assumed, or just a way to request that the lang attribute takes precedence over the keyboard language.
– Ability to provide a custom dictionary that's used in addition to or instead of the system dictionary.
