@gauntface I think that that would be the wrong way to solve the problem.  It means that you can't rely on push being present in those applications.  That would, in my experience, make push unusable as a resplacement for the proprietary notification systems applications use today.  That negates much - if not all - of the advantage that a push service brings.

I'd rather see all the push services produce an endpoint that is properly open so that it can be reliably used by applications.
