It's not as new as you make it out to be. Used correctly, AppCache does offline already for a considerable number of simple use cases. We've been using it for years now, and your ignoring it or Jake's calling it names in conference talks don't change that fact. Anyway, if you want people to use polyfills to cheat Google algos, then so be it.
