Re: Welcome to the Web & AI Interest Group (WebAI) - Please introduce yourselves.

Hi everyone,

My name is Andrei Ciortea [1], I am an assistant professor with the School of Computer Science at the University of St.Gallen [2], Switzerland, and an external collaborator of the Wimmics Lab [3] at Inria Sophia Antipolis, France.

I am currently co-chairing the W3C Autonomous Agents on the Web (WebAgents) Community Group (CG) [4]. Over the years, I have also briefly participated in or followed the activity of other W3C groups (e.g., Web of Things WG/IG/CG, Solid CG).

My research focuses on the design of autonomous agents and multi-agent systems for the Web, with emphasis on the Web of Things. I study fundamental principles, software architectures, programming paradigms, and algorithms that enable robust adaptive behavior under continuous change in distributed hypermedia environments [5].

Within the WebAgents CG, we are currently working on a report that might provide relevant input to the discussion [6]. The report aims to answer 3 main questions:
- What should be the role of the Web (at a conceptual level) in the emerging landscape of Agentic AI?
- What are the relevant standards within and maybe also outside the W3C?
- What are the standardization gaps (if any)?

I look forward to participating in the discussions.

Best wishes,
Andrei

Hello everyone,

My name is Fabien Gandon [1], I am a research director at Inria [2], and founder of the Wimmics Lab [3] working on methods based on Web and AI techniques typically to assist epistemic communities in managing, accessing, refining, enriching, their knowledge.
In addition I am a professor and vice-head of scientific board of the Data ScienceTech Institute School of Engineering [4], and holder of a 3IA Chair at the Interdisciplinary Institute of Artificial Intelligence of University Côte d'Azur since 2019.

I am also the AC Rep of Inria at W3C since 2012, and my lab and I have been mainly involved in linked data and semantic Web groups since 1999: RDF, SPARQL, RDFa, GRDDL, SHACL, RDFS, OWL, etc.
We provide one of the open-source implementations for these standards : CORESE [5]

My primary research topics are : Artificial Intelligence (symbolic and neuro-symbolic), Graph based Knowledge Representation, Linked Data, Ontologies, Semantic Web (see my papers for more details [6][7]).

I am also interested in the impact of advances of computer science on the Web in general, for instance the impact of "attention-capture techniques" on the Web [8][9].

I will be the co-chair of the WebAI group and I am looking forward to interact with you all.

Best regards,
