Dear W3C Colleagues: This time including Web Authentication -- Sorry for not including you on our last round ... Accessible Platform Architectures (A)A is updating a 2005 W3C Note: "Inaccessibility of CAPTCHA." We expect to publish our second public wide review draft this coming week. Several people responded to our previous request in May. We thank you for your very helpful comments. We believe we've incorporated your feedback in our current draft: https://raw.githack.com/w3c/apa/e3c61aecfbd87782e31d38b1867dc94dc4478c42/captcha/index.html ***Context*** Since early in 2018 APA has been working to update a 2005 W3C Note on: "Inaccessibility of CAPTCHA." We published a FPWD of an updated draft in 2018, and a public wide review draft early in 2019. We received significant public comment on the wide review draft and are now preparing to publish a second wide review draft hopefully next week, the week of 24 June. We'd like to think we're close to completing this update, but we still need your help determining whether our current draft is in fact nearing completion. While our subject is accessibility, we have found it impossible to discuss accessibility without also referencing security, privacy and internationalization concerns. That's why we would particularly welcome your comments on our current draft here: https://raw.githack.com/w3c/apa/e3c61aecfbd87782e31d38b1867dc94dc4478c42/captcha/index.html We expect there are still editorial issues with this draft, but we believe we've addressed all substantive concerns of which we're aware. Our question to you: Have we fairly represented the state of CAPTCHA today? If not, what have we missed or mischaracterized? Is Sec 3.5 appropriate for this W3C Note track document? We've become convinced that Turing testing needs more direct attention. While we're confident accessibility would benefit, we don't want to step out of our remit unreasonably.
