https://github.com/w3c/web-platform-tests/pull/3239/commits/b738c3e7da61b5e4ae71c7bf4df88e271b97961d makes the test believe that the event has fired even if it hasn't yet. I'll take over this PR and adjust the impl and usage of MediaSourceUtil.appendUntilEventFires to differentiate the two, while including the fix for not exceeding the segmentInfo.media array bounds.
