R: Social Web of Things in OMA

As a brief update you can find an initial draft of the document here [1]. Contributions by OMA member companies are welcome, or through the W3C liaison.

Indeed Dave you’re right there is a topic related to natural language vs API. Actually social specs such as ActivityStreams help in that sense as they can act as a bridge between both worlds by properly using verbs and object-types to structure data while at the same time convey natural language descriptions.
Other topics typically related to the “social” (seen as the network of users) WoT are:

- Understand the cardinality of associations between objects and social identities/accounts. In some cases they may have their own, or be grouped under a “gateway” which has one account for all, or be associated to a user (personal accessories for example).

- Using social relationships for access control: as an extension of the previous, one could rethink the access control model to mimic what is currently quite common in OSN, such as restricting information (and commands in this case) to only specific (sets of) users.

Cheers
Walter

If you have any interesting about it or want to join this drafting,

Thanks for the pointer - this builds upon the tradition of 'bots in chat networks and the simple use of natural language that complements the GUI style of user experience. The challenge is to bridge the gap between natural language and the APIs exposed by services. Natural language tends to imply a degree of flexibility that the APIs may not support.

Best regards,
