I think usage from background might be a useful feature, but we might need to re-think the [Security policies](https://w3c.github.io/web-nfc/#security-policies) laid down for WebNFC. Since WebNFC works only on tap (around 5 cm distance), we might take the user action of bringing the phone close as a "yes" to a webNFC operation, and to avoid inadvertent "yes", we might prefer webNFC to work only on the visible, focused top-level browsing context. There was a request for [Background support for sensors APIs](https://github.com/w3c/sensors/issues/73), but we found that [Android 9 limits the ability for background apps to access user input and sensor data](https://developer.android.com/about/versions/pie/android-9.0-changes-all#bg-sensor-access). I vote for this feature to be in Level 2 (Enhancement) instead of MVP. -- GitHub Notification of comment by riju Please view or discuss this issue at https://github.com/w3c/web-nfc/issues/293#issuecomment-520420489 using your GitHub account
