Multi-device Timing at TPAC 2016

Dear IG members.

I thought I'd mention that the Multi-device Timing Community Group
(initiated via Web&TV IG) is using the occasion to have its first F2F at
TPAC this year. A session is scheduled for Thursday evening,15:30-17:30,
room 1.14 first floor. I'll be there to host the session, hopefully with
assistance from Francois Daoust (W3C).

For those not familiar with the group - multi-device timing is about
allowing distributed web-agents to be precisely controlled and synchronized
(in the temporal sense) across the Internet. Precision target: single digit
millisecond/echoless audio. This capability would be valuable across
different types of multi-device applications, including broadcasting,
music, IP streaming/OTT etc. In particular, multi-device timing
capabilities would simplify integration between Web and timing sensitive
media products hosted by native platforms or architectures. And the best
part; the Web is already quite ready for this, so no radical steps are
required to make this happen.

Though still a new group and a small group, the multi-device CG has already
presented a technical solution, a draft standards proposal, and an
implementation.

I invite members of the Web&TV IG to participate, and possibly also spread
the word as this activity might also be relevant outside the scope of this
IG.

Also, please get in touch. I'm going to be at TPAC as observer the whole
week.
