Re: Request for external groups for TTWG

Simon,

since HbbTV doesn't write specifications, but adopts them from organisations that are already represented, what additional sort of input do you envisage the association providing in response to the proposed deliverables?

Kind regards,

Nigel

Hi Mark,

I suggest the group also talks to the HbbTV Association:
Hybrid Broadcast Broadband TV Association (HbbTV): This industry forum has defined an HTML profile to be used on connected TVs and similar devices which is published through ETSI. It continues to work to expand the functionality included in their specification.

Subject: Request for external groups for TTWG

Web & TV folks,

The Timed Text Working Group (TTWG) is asking the Web & TV IG for any additional external groups that they should liaise with as part of their new charter [2]. These could be national, regional or international. They could be standards bodies or industry groups. Please reply-all to this email with any candidate suggestions.

Here’s the current list in the draft charter:

This group is developing standards for coded representation of digital audio and video, including MPEG-4.
Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers (SMPTE)
This organization was founded to advance theory and development in the motion imaging field. SMPTE produced extensions to TTML 1 that are part of SMPTE-TT.
European Broadcasting Union (EBU)
EBU is a confederation of national broadcasting organisations, facilitate exchange of audiovisual content. This Group has developed an XML -based format for use in subtitling production and exchange, based on TTML 1.
Digital Entertainment Content Ecosystem (DECE)
DECE is a consortium chartered to develop standards for the digital distribution of premium content.
DVB Project: Technical Module (DVB-TM)<http://www.dvb.org/groups/TM>
The DVB Project develops specifications for digital television systems, which are turned into standards by international standards bodies such as ETSI or CENELEC. It provides a conduit to other relevant standardisation activities including MPEG for the purpose of meeting the objectives of the DVB Project.

Thanks,

Hi Mark,

On Friday in Shenzhen I assigned an action to myself on your behalf (as you're not on the TTWG tracker), which is at [1]. If you have any additions to the external groups in the new draft charter [2] please could you send them to Philippe (CCed), myself and David?
