Dear all, Thanks for the answers; I am learning how an IG works little by little... I think that as Giuseppe says, the first action will be to discuss and brainstorm about the topic. Then, to evaluate if there is a need for a task force or if as Marie Jose says concepts of social TV might be used for orienting discussions on existing task forces (I am more in favor of the latter for now) I think we should think of social TV much further than Facebook and Twitter. My definition is quite broad, and aligned with Marie Jose's I just uploaded a draft version of the paper in my webpage, so everyone can take a look (a new more complete version will be coming soon) http://homepages.cwi.nl/~garcia/socialtv/socialtv-draft.pdf I hope this could be a good starting point for discussion Best regards Pablo On Jun 13, 2011, at 1:02 PM, Marie-Jose Montpetit wrote: > Well I guess the discussion will be different depending on what the definition of Social TV is. If we agree it encompasses the technologies to enable social viewing of TV content (way beyond Tweeting or posting on Facebook) there are still some open questions. I think one aspect that could be looked in and was what I presented in Berlin in the concept of content protection (not DRM) in a social viewing experience when you have different content being mingled: the commercial content and the commentaries/ancillary content produced by the social circle. Other aspects include synchronization when content is consumed on different platforms (web and traditional TV is actually a good example) and across short distances (in the home) or large (across countries) as well as collaborative filtering (for example using the friends recommendation to sort through search results to find what is available to view in your area etc.). > > Maybe not worth a different TF from web and TV but surely something to orient recent discussions on platforms, remotes and connectivity like DLNA or other. > > /mjm > On Jun 13, 2011, at 5:05 AM, Olivier Thereaux wrote: > >> Hello Pablo, all >> >> On 10/06/2011 10:51, Pablo Cesar wrote: >>> One topic we have been researching from some time (and we are quite interested about) is Social TV. >> >> The topic is of interest to us as well. >> >>> Is there any intention to have a task force in this direction (or do you consider it as an issue within the home networking task force)? >> >> I am (personally) uncertain whether there is room for standards work in this area beyond the need for easily addressable (and ideally dereferenceable) content, mostly covered already in the MediaIdentification use case discussed in the HNTF. >> >> http://www.w3.org/2011/webtv/wiki/HNTF/Home_Network_TF_Discussions/MediaIdentification >> >> That said, I'd be more than happy to contribute to the discussion on social TV, and see whether we have a broad enough scope to warrant a task force.
