JCD: There is no such limitation! Of course the "discoverer" and "discovered" can be implemented with any technology. I insist in my use cases that a (web) application can be either the caller of the service, or the "implementer" who exposes the service. In some cases indeed, there may be a web application on both sides. But the situation where either the service or the service user is implemented with other technologies is definitely in scope for me too.
