At the September 14, 2005 TeamB meeting I took an action item to work on the primary language technique based on the discussions from the list and at the meeting. Attached is an updated HTML technique for primary language. I started with the existing 4.1 Identifying the primary language [1] technique and made the following changes: Removed the editorial note about using HTTP headers. I added a paragraph acknowledging HTTP and meta element techniques but specifying that lang attribute is preferred. Updated the example to include code examples for HTML 4.01, XHTML 1.0 served as text/html, and XHTML 1.1 served as application/xhtml+xml. Updated the references section to include info about language codes and a working draft from W3C I18N group about specifying languages. Can someone please double check that the doctype declarations of the examples are correct? Is the explanation about HTTP and meta element sufficient? Is it acceptable to provide the three code examples in one technique? thanks, -becky [1] http://www.w3.org/TR/WCAG20-HTML-TECHS/#lang-att_primary Becky Gibson Web Accessibility Architect IBM Emerging Internet Technologies 5 Technology Park Drive Westford, MA 01886 Voice: 978 399-6101; t/l 333-6101 Email: gibsonb@us.ibm.com
