Hi Group, The user testing did show that we might want to evolve some aspects of the homepage and navigation. We have already seen some ideas from several people, and it might be good to collect some more thoughts so that we can talk about what we want to do in our meeting next Wednesday (October 25, 2017). Please don’t put a lot of work into creating graphics: scribbles or descriptions are fine. I hope this exercise helps us to get a better picture of the wants and needs of the homepage and navigation and allow us to come up with a great solution. _See below for details and where to put your ideas!_ **Homepage** * Shawn is trying to get some clarity and ideas about the needs around the news part of the homepage (see <https://lists.w3.org/Archives/Public/public-wai-eo-site/2017Oct/0008.html>. * I heard that Alicia and Charlotte are also thinking about various ideas. * At this point, I think we need a brainstorming type of approach, so anything goes! :-D Just keep in mind the relative importance of the information (from https://www.w3.org/WAI/EO/wiki/Redesign_-_October_Revisions#Home_page): 1. W3C — people need to know what W3C (and WAI) is - to have good context for the whole site and content. 2. Range of resources — One major goal is communicating the breadth of and wide range of different WAI resources. This has been a known issue for ages, and still played out in usability testing. 3. Regular users not likely to go to home page no matter what the content. (especially since we won't have new content very often) _If you have ideas, please comment on this GitHub issue:_ https://github.com/w3c/wai-website-design/issues/101 – you can upload images as well. **Navigation** * The usability of the two-level navigation is not the best, and we’d like to change it. * We did try out Alicia’s initial design that also displayed links to sub-pages, but there were many concerns, and we did not take it up. * Now we might be at a point where we might want to go back to it but slightly change it, or come up with other ideas. * What we need to look at: * What do other organizations with similar content do? * How do we make the navigation a) easy to use, while b) keeping it comprehensive? _If you have ideas, please comment on this GitHub issue:_ https://github.com/w3c/wai-website-design/issues/102 – you can upload images as well. Thanks, Eric -- Eric Eggert Web Accessibility Specialist Web Accessibility Initiative (WAI) at World Wide Web Consortium (W3C)
