Re: Wednesday Task Force Meeting

Hi Eric,

Looks like those of us who don’t use IRC were the ones who missed that and called in today! It was quick, I probably typed more in the summary than we actually said ☺

Thanks,
James

Hi James,

I checked the IRC logs from last week and it said no meeting and there was also nobody in IRC at the start of the meeting. I would love to have joined!

Thanks for the meeting summary and the proof of concept!

Eric

Hi Team,

We only had three 3 people (James, Laura, Alicia) call in for our Wednesday Task Force meeting today. We still met for about 15 minutes to go over the “Proof of Concept” Role Landing Page requested by Shawn last week.

Meeting Summary (Laura/Alicia, please comment if needed)

• James shared the attached word document with Laura and Alicia, and presented it as his concept for how we handle the role-based navigation idea for the updated site. It was a rapid “sketch” activity – copy and layout are not proposed as final, the concept is what he wants feedback on.

• James’ vision for this feature is to provide an alternate navigation that does not lead to everything on the site, but to curated resources most relevant to each role.

• He wants to help people who might be overwhelmed or intimidated by the full site to feel more comfortable by having a smaller, targeted space for them; to keep it short and simple to drive home the point that yes, Accessibility is a big topic, but it’s not that big for you, and if you start on this special page made just for you, you can get up to speed fairly easily.

• After going through the resources on this curated page, users should feel comfortable enough with the site and accessibility that they can browse the full site comfortably.

• The plan he arranged with Shawn was to create this POC, get feedback from those on the TF with interest and tweak it once or redo it from scratch quickly if necessary, but to rapidly get the concept nailed down and built out. If it becomes clear that the creation of these pages is not that simple and will take some time, we’ll pull the Role-Nav from the site and go live without that feature, adding the feature in a later release.

• Laura and Alicia liked the concept and had no comments at the time. Team, please review and be ready to discuss at our next meeting on Nov. 29th.

Happy Thanksgiving,
James
