Here are a couple of quick sketches [markup still total junk - don;t even look!]: - http://www.w3.org/2004/09/wai-nav/ex5-implement.html (plus a line from the nav box to the vertical body line) uses vertical lines to show hierarchy, and also to help distinguish annotated nav in body - http://jigteam.w3.org/2004/09/wai-nav/ex-implement.html plays with background within nav area and horizontal line from nav - http://jigteam.w3.org/2004/09/wai-nav/ex2-implement.html had indentation only at the left, and ellipses at the end - http://jigteam.w3.org/2004/09/wai-nav/ex3-implement.html add bullets to above
