AW: No meeting August 4

Hello Daniel!

Sorry for the late reply.

Module 3: Separating functional images is a good idea. I think simple, complex, or functional images of text can be included in this topic. Some examples for every kind of functional image (of text) might be a good idea for clarity.

Module 6: ARIA is important for widgets. I think that some repetition is not that bad. I introduce WAI-ARIA up-front after introducing HTML with some critical discussion on when to use ARIA and when not. Lots of developers see ARIA as a panacea. But relying just on ARIA does not guarantee an accessibility for everyone. The support of ARIA in browser / screenreader combinations is still different. I think there should also be some critical reflection and future developers should be aware of that fact.

Best Regards
Gerhard

Betreff: No meeting August 4

Hello all,

There will be no WAI Curricula Task Force meeting for Tuesday August 4. Instead, I encourage you to go through the questions I sent the other day and provide comments. I will paste them in this email for convenience. Those questions will help me shape the coming modules for these curricula.

Module 3: Images and Graphics

New proposal

In module 3, we propose to move functional images to its own topic. Now that we start to separate the different types of images, it has come to mind that there are different use cases for simple, complex, or functional images of text. Should they have its own topic? Can we include them in any of the already available topics?

Module 6: Widgets

New proposal -- will be updated in the coming days at

Current first topic of module 6 is an introduction to WAI-ARIA. This may sound repetitive with respect to module 4 of the previous curriculum which is already a prerequisite for this one.

What are your thoughts on introducing the idea of progressive enhancement to explain the different layers of a custom component instead of introducing WAI-ARIA up-front? For those who teach these contents: do you introduce WAI-ARIA up-front or you try to relate it with other developer skills/ If so, which ones you choose?

Thanks once again for your support and contributions.

Best.
