I sent an email to the AB about the different values of having standards for the Web back in 2018. I still find myself referencing it in some of my conversations ever since then. I figured I should excavate it and put it in a public archive, so here it is. Both living and snapshot model intend to give us some of those values along the production cycle. Depending on your place on the Web, the importance of the values varies widely and your definition of standard will fluctuate. I updated the list further and I still don't pretend the list is complete. Some of those values can also be refined further to add additional distinctions. * open/closed development * use cases * requirements * wide review * horizontal review (i18n, a11y, security, privacy, performance, device independence, sustainability, TAG, etc.) * tests * participants consensus * members-at-large consensus * issues addressed * objection/appeal process * patent policy * implementation commitments * implementation experience * implementation adoption * implementation conformance * user adoption * user documentation * regulators adoption * stable reference * organization endorsement * errata handling * maintenance * status limitation duration Not all of values are taken into account in the W3C Process (or any other existing processes as far as I know). Philippe
